Fans send support to comedian Janey Godley in hospice (2025)

Janey Godley has shared a montage of her best videos, as her fans flood her Twitter page with messages of support during her time in hospice care.

The Scottish comedian revealed she had ovarian cancer in November 2021 before tragically informing her followers last month that she would be moving into end of life care.

Despite this the 63-year-old, who found viral fame doing dubbed videos of Nicola Sturgeon's Covid briefings during the pandemic, has continued to share her positivity from hospital, today delighting fans with some of her old voiceover content.

The first video she shared was of a 'mama bear speaking Scottish' struggling to cross a busy road with her cubs. The post which now has nearly 10,000 likes was captioned: 'I loved making my voiceovers'.

Fans immediately commented how they were in fits of laughter watching the clip, originally posted in June, 2021,jumping in to support the mother-of-one for the 'light she brings to the world'.

Many kind heartedly responded to the video about how Godley had helped them through tough times with her 'comedic genius'.

One said: 'You helped a lot of us throughout lockdown with your voiceovers of N Sturgeon Janey. My husband of 48 years died the week before and you made me laugh at a difficult time. Bless you. 'Frank get the door' is now in common usage because of you.'

While another added: 'The first one I heard was two beavers walking home, they were carrying vegetables, and one was planning on making soup. It was a terrible day, anniversary of my mother's death, and I laughed hysterically at that video. Thank you so much, Janey. Much love.'

A third agreed: 'Janey you are, and will always be, an absolutely unique comedic genius. I seek out your voice overs when I am feeling depressed or anxious and they _always_ make me feel better.'

Born in the east end of Glasgow in 1961, Godley was a pub landlady before establishing herself on the comedy circuit.

She went viral in 2016 after she was pictured holding a placard with an offensive word at a protest against Donald Trump on his visit to Scotland.

Her profile was then raised further during the pandemic when she gained viral recognition for her voiceovers of politician's videos on TV, for example Nicola Sturgeon or Boris Johnson.

Other loyal supporters were quick to share their support for the comedian during this difficult time.

A new fan wrote: 'This is the first Janey voiceover I heard. After watching it 15 times in a row, I googled you & have been following you ever since. Bought your books & gutted I wasn't able to see you perform. You're such a comedic genius and a wonderful human.'

Another said:Crying into my toast watching this. So many folk love you Janey, I am thinking of you a lot at the moment x'

A third added: 'Oh God Janey I LOVE that one! Thank you sooo much for the laughter especially in these dark times. You are STILL making a difference girl! Thinking of you often xxx.'

With a fourth chiming in: 'Been going through your tl, watching all these voice-overs and I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. Thank you for sharing your light.'

Godley is also the mother of actress Ashley Storrie, the star of BBC Three comedy Dinosaur.

Storrie told followers on TikTok that she was going to keep 'living her life and working', per her mother's wishes.

Other videos Godley has shared to her X page include one of a voiceover from the Presidential debate between Trump and Harris where she pokes fun at comments made previously by Trump about migrants eating cats and dogs.

And another video which has amassed nearly 4,000 likes was of an interview between Nigel Farage and Emily Maitlis which joked about the friendship between the Reform leader and Trump.

Godley has also been a regular co-presenter on BBC Radio 4's Loose Ends, as well as fronting BBC Radio 4 series The C Bomb.

In 2023 she was honoured at the inaugural Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
