What is the Nexus Mods controversy? ›

1. The Core of the Issue: Nexus Mods banned modifications that aimed to remove They/Them pronouns from Starfield. This decision by one of the largest modding communities has sparked a debate about the limits of creative freedom and the role of modding platforms in shaping game content.

A lot of modders are leaving Nexus because of some of the frankly unethical decisions they've made. The nexus has made a rather invasive u-turn of late when they should only just publish. They even insulted their own long-term users in the process.

The Nexus is a legit mod site. It existed long before the workshop. They do, however, have fewer restrictions on their mods, so there may be some issued here and there, but it is unlikely you will have to deal with them as long as you read the mods reviews/comments first.

All mod files shared on our website must pass through several security checks before they can be downloaded by the community. If any of these checks fail during the upload process, the file will be quarantined and will be unavailable until it has been reviewed by a moderator.

However, if the file is found to be in violation of our policies or guidelines, it may be removed permanently and the uploader might receive a notice, warning, or ban as described above - at the discretion of staff. Enquiries about file moderation should be directed to support@nexusmods.com.

Nexus Mod Manager is the older app which has been replaced by Vortex. Mod Organizer 2 has a steep learning curve but also has many more features. Doing a search will yield you a lot more info than making a forum post.

Very safe. Get an adblocker before you get on nexusmods. Your biggest risk is from their ads and follow showler's advice too.
