If you were in San Antonio in the ’80s and ’90s, you probably heard a radio advertisem*nt from developer G.G. Gale asking listeners to “come to Timberwood Park, where there’s more treetops than rooftops.” A few decades later, my wife and I did just that.
We both grew up in North Central San Antonio and had friends or family who lived in Timberwood Park. In fact, my wife lived part of her childhood in the neighborhood. I grew up in the adjacent Stone Oak area and then later further north just six minutes from our current home. So Timberwood Park had always been considered part of our home.
The story of how we got here is definitely not something we ever pictured. My wife and I met in San Antonio and pursued higher education in Houston. After law school, I started my own practice in Houston, but we planned to “someday” return to San Antonio to escape the fast pace of life in Houston.
We finally moved back to San Antonio in 2019 to a rental house on the Northeast Side. Once the pandemic hit, we decided to look for a house to buy. At the time the market was beginning to be extremely overvalued, and we didn’t like any of the homes we were finding in our price range. My father-in-law jokingly asked us, “Why don’t you just build a house, then?” I had built homes prior to practicing law, so we figured why not go for it.
When we began to look for land, we instantly focused our efforts on a familiar area of town: Timberwood Park. All lots were at least half an acre, so there was plenty of privacy and room to spread out. Now having finished our house and being in this community, we truly do love where we live.
The beauty of Timberwood Park is in its proximity and distance from San Antonio. The neighborhood is a 10-minute drive north of the Blanco Road and Loop 1604 North intersection and just north of the Stone Oak area. Our neighborhood is close enough to enjoy all North Central San Antonio has to offer but far enough away to be amid the rolling hills of the Texas Hill Country.
My law practice, The Richter Law Firm, is located in the adjacent Stone Oak area, and my wife’s online clothing boutique, Linen and Thread Boutique, recently opened a storefront in the Elysia Collective Company at Lockhill Selma and Wurzbach Road, so Timberwood Park’s location allows us to be close to our work.
Some of the best breakfast tacos to be had can be found right at the entrance to Timberwood Park at Taqueria Aguascalientes. Our go-to dinner spot is Chama Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse for always amazing food and impeccable service. If you go, definitely ask for Aaron, their wine sommelier, to point you in the right direction on their impressive wine list. We have found some of our favorite wines because of Aaron.
As wine people, we’ve been excited to see several wine bars open up near us. Cibolo Creek Vineyards, just north of us in Bulverde, has a great selection of wines, chic décor and two resident alpacas. Texas Winers focuses on wines vinted right here in the state of Texas. One of our favorite perks is their “build your own charcuterie board,” which lets you pick from an extensive list of options based on your taste.
Since the pandemic, following the trends we have seen all across our city, there has been significant new construction in our neighborhood, and all of the once-empty lots are now no longer empty. We count ourselves fortunate to have been able to secure our piece of what we believe is the best part of Texas to grow our businesses and our family.

What is a livable salary in San Antonio? The median household income in a city certainly helps gauge the cost of living. The median household income in San Antonio is $55,084, which is 18% less than that of the state. The median income for an individual is $32,393, which is 13% less than that of the state.
Retired urban-dwellers tend to be more active and healthy than those in the suburbs! With the heart of San Antonio culture right at your doorstep, neighborhoods like Southtown, Lavaca, and King William offer something the suburbs can't.
Some of the factors: job and economic opportunities, income tax savings, lack of a state tax and, most enticingly, a relatively low cost of living. "Cost of living is huge when it comes to moving to a different state.
The median listing home price in San Antonio, TX was $300K in June 2024, trending down -4.8% year-over-year. The median listing home price per square foot was $173. The median home sold price was $270K.
Another comparison reveals that San Antonio has a lower murder rate-9.2 than Dallas's 15, and a lower robbery rate of 179.6 versus Dallas's 553.9. Both cities are more prone to crime than your average American city.
Woodland Hills is a quiet, family-friendly neighborhood that is a bit more affordable than some of the other cities in the San Fernando Valley. It's also more secluded from the hustle and bustle of LA (which may be a plus or minus, depending on what you like).
The lifestyle in Center Harbor is relaxed and unhurried, making it the perfect place for those seeking a slower pace of life. That said, there's never a shortage of things to do. The town's proximity to the lakes and mountains means that outdoor adventures are always within reach.
Evanston Park is one of the finest suburbs in Gawler with its balance of parks, walking trails, greenery, shops and schools the atmosphere is relaxing and family orientated.
